What is an HDMI cable and do I need one?

HDMI Stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface. It is essentially a cable that can transport large amounts of digital audio and video signals from one device to another. Due to the increasing amount of high definition capable devices becoming available, this is an essential and convenient way to connect them all together.

But be warned - make sure that you purchase a HDMI CERTIFIED cable. Not all HDMI cables are created equal. Because of the sheer amount of data that has to be transported, cheaper HDMI cables can develop problems ranging from jerky pictures, video/audio drop-outs to no connection at all. Over distances of more than 5 metres these problems become even more evident.
