With so many cheap DVD Players in stores, why should I pay over $100 for a “Name” brand?

Believe it or not I have seen DVD Players cheaper than the actual DVD disc that is played on them!! It seems tempting “If it breaks down I’ll just get another one and still be ahead” but remember the old saying “You get what you pay for” well it most certainly relates to DVD players.

Three main reasons:

  1. Picture and sound quality: especially on modern TV screens and digital sound systems any imperfection of the DVD playback will be clearly noticeable. Cheap players naturally use cheap electronic components and this is definitely noticeable in both picture and sound performance.
  2. Reliabilty: Whilst things can go wrong with any piece of electronics, it is no surprise that problems occur more regularly with cheaper-made, no-name products.
  3. Warranty/Servicability: Most come with 1 year or lesser warranty and without a clear service centre network to help you.

At around the $150 mark for names like Sony and Panasonic and respected HiFi brands like Denon and Yamaha available for around $300, I put it to you that the extra money spent will provide many years of enjoyment and a lot less frustration!
