What is “Full HD”? How is it different from normal High Definition? What Full HD LCDs are the best?

Confusingly we have yet another “standard” for large screen TVs. Before it was either standard definition (SD) or high definition(HD), now there is also the FULL HD. This simply refers to the number of pixels (coloured dots) that the screen has; the higher the number, the higher the resolution.

The only important difference is if you want to connect devices that have a 1080P (the P is for progressive) output such as Blu-ray, HD DVD and some other “next-generation” HD players. The FULL HD is the only panel that can display the 1080P signal.

If you are the type of person that wants to make sure that you have the ability to connect even higher quality video players in the future then Full HD is a good thing to consider. I recommend taking a look at the current Sony range for LCD.

Keep in mind that High Definition digital TV broadcasting will look the same on a “normal” HD TV or a “Full HD” set.
