PSB’S SYNCHRONY SERIES HOME THEATRE SPEAKERS – achievement by refinement

Visual elegance, luxurious finish and advanced performance loudspeakers

Heralded as clearly the best ever designs to-date, PSB’s new Synchrony Series music and Home Theatre speakers, offer an achievement in refinement of unprecedented parallel. PSB are the initials of Founder and Chief Designer, Paul Barton whose Canadian based company produces some of the world’s finest music and Home Theatre speaker systems.

The new Synchrony Series is the company’s flagship range and comprises; Synchrony One and Two tower speakers, 2 x centre channel models – the One C and the Two C, 2 x bookshelf speakers One B and Two B, and one surround speaker. The version ‘Two’ models are slightly smaller and are a less expensive option to enter the Synchrony line-up.

Contended by Paul Barton to be his most exciting speaker system to-date, the Synchrony, are the result of three years development yielding improvements in the back and front ends of all drivers, including new titanium dome tweeter and cones, plus re-engineered laminate crossovers. The cabinets have also been highly refined over previous designs.

All Synchrony models share the highest platform in parts and build quality including extruded aluminium front and back panels that unite subtly curving, seven-layered, hand veneered sides into an exceedingly strong resonant free enclosure. Through the use of double-locking aluminium corners and other unique technologies all models fit together with the most elegant seamless precision, eliminating the need for unsightly bolts or screws. The diffraction free surfaces together with their unique construction attest to their sonic purity.

The Synchrony towers use advanced computer optimized box tuning and crossover networks. The cabinets are subdivided into three discrete chambers, one for each of the woofers – this ensures such effects as ‘floor bounce’, that plagues other floor-standing speakers, is not an issue and the bottom end response is extended and smooth.

The high frequency reproduction of any speaker is critical, our ears being sensitive to any distortion in this range. As a result, all Synchrony speakers feature a highly evolved ferrofluid cooled 25mm dome tweeter that banishes dynamic compression that limits most designs.

Scores of improvements of the Synchrony woofers and midrange units Include laminated cones, sandwich fine-weave fibreglass and compressed felted fibres, resulting in a uniquely rigid, low mass diaphragm of high sensitivity and smoothness. Oversized voice coils, and distortion arresting motor structure preserve the magnetic linearity even at extreme excursions making for extended bottoms, greater clarity and drive.

The Synchrony S Surround is unique in that as a double two-way design it can be used in one of three modes; dipole, bipole or monopole response depending on how you connect it. For example, for dipole response you cross-jump the dual inputs and other setups are self-explanatory.
